This is the first in a post about a collection of benches donated to Ulverston Town by a Charles James Chapman. We dont know how many of these there are, or why they were donated or even where they are! We cant even tell them from far off as some look different!
Honestly if I was going to donate a load of benches to a town I would pick something distinctive! But enough about me...
From what I can find out Charles James Chapman wanted to run for election in some local council elections?
Maybe the benches were a bribe (or clever marketing) to the townsfolk of Ulverston? What... No! Never!

So bizarrely these two benches are positioned really close together, within a meter or two of each other, however they look in different directions, I have come up with a few reasons this might have been done...
- Mr and Mrs Chapman really liked this spot on the hill, but each liked different views
They would take it in turn to sit on each bench - A clever take on the impending "social" world we now live, where being social means sitting near each other but communicating through some form of screen or other
- The bench installers had an argument over the placement of the benches and 1/2 put it one way and 1/2 put it the other, turns out both ways were wrong and actually they should have been pointing up the hill...
- Actually he was very wise and realised the wind blows from different directions and depending on this depended which one he sat on
- To allow spies to sit near each other, but not obviously communicating with each other...

The Benches: Overall the bench is well kept, grass is nicely cut around it and the views are nice.
BenchMark: 4.5 the back of the bench could be improved but generally very nice, watch this blog for more benches from the C. J. Chapman collection!
