Well here we have the definitive guide to defining a bench...

Dictionary definitions: 

Oxford English dictionary: "A long seat for more than one person"

The Free Dictionary: "A long seat, often without a back, for two or more persons." Which then goes onto a thwart: " a seat lying across a boat and occupied by an oarsman"

Urban Dictionary: "a combination of either wood or steel, it can also be made out of cement, shaped like a long chair with low back support. these are meant for people to sit on and can be found near, around, or inside most public places."

Google: "A long seat for several people, typically made of wood or stone."
