Yesterday we went on an awesome walk to Beacon Tarn just at the south end of Coniston, the views were stunning, but, unfortunately I cant share them with you.
How, I hear you ask, can you be so mean as to talk about somewhere so amazing, then right at the last second let the reader down and not share a photo...
... well there was no bench! Not one bench on the whole 10* mile walk, not one when we got back to the car, not one near the random farm we saw, not even one by the tarn.
So how on earth do I review a bench! Well in an unprecedented act of forward planning I have an emergency bench to review from when I was in Soutport, it was right near...
Southport Marina
This bench was unlike any other bench we have reviewed so far for it had a roof! Yes a small building just built to contain 4 benches, each looking north, south, east and west. Ideal for when you are stuck out in the rain which is gusting from the south. You can just nip round the building and sit facing north.
Location:
This bench has an awesome location, looking right out onto the marina where you can watch the funny line of seagulls all sat in a row, and the swans swimming in a row and some rowing (maybe sailing boats now I come to think of it, but I wanted to keep going with the rows) boats all in a row. Unfortunately for this story there were no ducks in a row... ahh well.
Comfort:
The bench was quite comfy, the roof and sides sheltered you from the wind and baking sun which was nice, there was some litter which had blown in under the bench and the graffiti was not quite to Banksys standard ( or anywhere close to be honest), but the roof and view more than made up for it.
I would imagine this is a bench to miss if you go on a midnight stroll, but as our train left at 4.30pm I couldnt possibly speculate...
BenchMark: 4/5 the rubbish and rubbish paint job lets this bench down, but the view is lovely, and the fact you have a pick of 4 benches, even better. The wall between the East and West benches would make this a bad bench for spies who wanted to sit with their backs to each other while still talking...
*Errr it might have been 10 miles, we didn't count but it did take about 3 hours but then we did stop for food, so maybe more like 6 miles??
