The Banana Bench
On my regular trip for the entertainment of my offspring I discovered a bench that was so much fun that I just had to shout about it.
It’s a weird bench. Not a regular bench, or even one of those that are a tad awkward. It’s just plain weird. For one, you cannot sit side by side on it. There’s only space for one at a time (though there is a slight exception which I’ll explain later) which gave me a slight doubt if this is a bench at all, and not a chair. But after using it a couple of times (even with multiple people) I made the conclusion it must be a bench.
This bench has one property that really makes it stand out: fun! This bench is in fact so fun that you want to use it over and over again. There’s, however, a big downside. It’s so popular that there’s regularly a queue for it, and it’s expected that you use it quickly and make space for the next person. As for using it together, you will have to sit in front of each other rather than side by side. You can also do other things than just sitting on it. You can, for instance, lie on your back or on your belly. Though that can become a little bit frightening sometimes.
So without further ado, here are the scores...
The position: It sits on an elevation, stretching out over a little bump.
Accessibility: It’s slightly uphill, and then there are 7 easy steps before taking a seat.
The view: Due to it’s slight elevation you can look down onto the football pitch beneath. This is extra enjoyable when an event is taking place there, though due to the nature of user rotation on this bench you can’t enjoy it for long.
Comfort: It’s all made of metal, which is not the most comfortable material. But it is very smooth which adds to the fun factor.
Overall BenchMark: 4 / 5 It lost a mark for having to queue up and another for having to walk up the elevation again once you get off it. But it gained a point for the fun factor.
I would really recommend this bench and suggest you take your time on this one. On a sunny day it’s really lovely and if you bring some lunch with you, there is a picnic table there as well (I don’t recommend this bench to eat your lunch as you might lose it halfway using it).
