There is a bench, a bench right on the edge, just before you plummet down into the waiting water below this bench entices you back from the edge and gives you somewhere to rest your legs after walking the 1112 meters (1,216 yards) to the end of Southport Pier. If you were asking the question "how long is southport pier?" then that is your answer, which was totally borrowed from Wikipedia.
On to the bench! With model and everything! yes yes could totally have tied our lunch away, but you want the authentic bench look... right!

Bench history!
In a new twist to this bench reviewing business we actually met someone who was there the day the bench was installed! After explaining to this lovely woman why I was taking a bench photo we asked her to to join us as we ate lunch. Turns out this bench was installed a few years back and was originally a lovely light gray colour. After we all decided it needed some work doing to restore it to its former glory we learnt that the woman had a bench at home which she had built, it was "complicated" and is now in her shed. We spoke of other benches such as swing seats* and just planks of wood. We also know that her granddaughter has a dog and is at uni somewhere far away.
The bench did have a plaque once, but has long since dropped off due (probably) to the salty wet and windy conditions.
Location / view:
Ideally situated at the end of the pier, with fantastic views over to Blackpool, fleetwood and beyond! You can make out Blackpool Tower, and on a clear day (it was a clear day) The Big Dipper (Pepsi Max) rollercoaster.

There is also icecream, a bar, and two forms of automotive transport which stop directly by the bench (a tram and a road train!).
The bench is let down by the railing being right at eye level which blocks the view:
BenchMark: 4.5/5, ideally situated, lovely view, handy for an icecream or a pint of ice cold coke from the bar which is just off to one side!
*Is that a bench?
